November Message from the Adjutant General

Greetings, men and women of the Indiana National Guard. I want to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to you, and to your families, for your tremendous dedication and hard work over the past several months. You have stepped up to support your fellow Hoosiers by lending your assistance across Indiana during the COVID-19 pandemic – and you’ve done so safely and with an attitude of service before self. You’ve served admirably overseas to support missions that are critical to our national security. And, you’ve accepted the challenges of structural reorganization to build a more modern, lethal, agile and resilient force, while helping foster a culture of innovation and shared purpose.

Guardsmen, as the backbone of this organization, YOU are my #1 priority.

As we all look forward to relaxing and celebrating during the upcoming holidays, I hope you will remember that I and your commanding officers have been listening to your feedback, and we have heard what you need in order to be successful:

  • Information to be accessible on a variety of platforms, so you can utilize it in many different ways. That’s coming, in the form of a new app, but also through a leadership focus from the top down on ensuring you get the information you need.
  • Your organization to be culturally attuned, and to pay attention to the shifting norms and demographics of the larger world we all inhabit. We are working to ensure that every member of the National Guard understands that you are a valued part of the team.
  • Programs that address the numerous challenges you and your families face as a result of mobilizations, deployments and part-time service. Our goal is to continually improve our family, troop, health, wellness and career resources to enable you to be successful in work and in life.
  • Alternative training requirements for soldiers and airmen who have previously served, and who are currently serving or who have recently served on orders.

Every day, it is a source of great pride to see so many of you holding yourselves to the highest standards of training and conduct, and to witness the discipline, professionalism and perseverance you exhibit to meet the challenges and commitments of your service. Thank you for everything you do to bring pride to this organization, and to support your fellow Americans, and fellow Hoosiers.
