Volunteers from the Military Department of Indiana Ceremonial Unit support the 500 Festival Mini Marathon in Indianapolis with a joint service color guard during pre-race ceremonies each year.

Indianapolis Grand Prix


Volunteers from the Military Department of Indiana Ceremonial Unit support the Indianapolis Grand Prix with a joint service color guard during pre-race ceremonies each year. Following the national anthem, the U.S. Air Force 49th Wing from Holloman AFB will provide the pre-race military flyover with two F-16 Fighting Falcons.

Armed Forces Day Weekend 


The Indiana National Guard, local sister services and veteran organizations provide multiple displays at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway throughout Armed Forces Day Weekend. These displays include a UH-60 Blackhawk, POW forensics information booth and multiple military vehicles for public interaction.

Joint Enlistment Ceremony


The Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indiana National Guard host a Joint Enlistment Ceremony for approximately 100 enlistees from all branches of service. The enlistees take the Oath of Enlistment to serve their state and nation, on the yard of bricks inside Pagoda Pavilion. This event is supported with a joint service color guard, the 38th Infantry Division Band and a UH60 Blackhawk flyover.

500 Festival Gold Star Ceremony


The 500 Festival and the Indiana National Guard Survivor Outreach Services program host a private Gold Star Ceremony to honor the families of our fallen heroes at the Indiana War Memorial in downtown Indianapolis. Service members are encouraged to attend in support of our gold star families. This event is not open to the public.

500 Festival Memorial Day Service


500 Festival hosts a Memorial Day service on the north steps of the Indiana War Memorial with the support of the Indiana National Guard and sister services. Historically the keynote speaker for this event is a four-star general. This event is supported with a joint service color guard; the 38th ID Band; a military vocalist, chaplain and bugler; a full ceremonial cortege; a firing party; and an A-10C Thunderbolt flyover provided by the 122nd Fighter Wing.

500 Festival Parade

 

The 500 Festival hosts a nationally televised parade on the streets of downtown Indianapolis the day before the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 race. The Indiana National Guard supports the opening ceremonies of the parade with a joint service color guard, the 38th Infantry Division marching band and a post anthem flyover. Historically, a four-star general and the State Adjutant General of the Indiana National Guard are the parades military grand marshals.

Indianapolis 500 Race


This year is the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 race, which is known as the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” In recognition of Memorial Day weekend, military personnel are honored during pre-race ceremonies. In support of this dedication, the Indiana National Guard provides a joint service color guard, a firing party, bugler and four-star general as the keynote speaker. Additionally, all branches of service partake in a parade lap and march during opening ceremonies. This year the United States Air Force Thunderbirds will provide the post-anthem flyover as a finale to the pre-race ceremonies.

Memorial Day Services


Traditionally, the Indiana National Guard supports the annual Memorial Day services at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis. This support includes a full ceremonial cortege, 38th Infantry Division Band, vocalist and guest speakers.
