Indiana National Guard presents the Purple Heart
INDIANAPOLIS – Retired Chief Warrant Officer 4 Rodney Harp, of Evansville, Ind., received the Purple Heart Medal today during a ceremony at the Indiana War Memorial. Harp received the medal for injuries he sustained while deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2010. Harp said was humbled to receive the medal.

Hoosier Guardsmen return from Afghanistan
INDIANAPOLIS – Approximately 160 Indiana National Guard Soldiers with the 1413th Engineer Company, 81st Troop Command, returned today to the Indianapolis International Airport after serving approximately eight months while deployed to Afghanistan. The engineer company’s mission was to perform base-closure and retrograde operations in support of the drawdown of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Cyclone Division announces new senior enlisted leader
INDIANAPOLIS – The 38th Infantry Division’s Commanding General, Maj. Gen. David C. Wood, announced his new senior enlisted advisor and the division’s top ranking noncommissioned officer, Sunday. Command Sgt. Maj. James H. Martin will assume his responsibilities to the 38th ID, also known as the Cyclone Division, in March when Command Sgt. Maj. John Watson retires after more than 30 years of service to the Hoosier State and nation.

Indiana Engineers deploy to Kuwait
A call-to-arms ceremony was held Sunday, Dec. 7, for the 1313th Engineer Company in Trafalgar, Ind. as soldiers said farewell to their loved ones in preparation for the deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Approximately 160 soldiers and their families gathered at Indian Creek High School and enjoyed an early holiday celebration with their loved ones.

Cyclone Division trains for warfighter
Indiana National Guard Soldiers assigned to the 38th Infantry Division Headquarters Battalion began training for an extensive upcoming war-fighting exercise during their monthly drill at Camp Atterbury, Ind., Nov. 7 to 9. The Soldiers worked inside a secured area of rapidly deployed tents and operated on computer-based systems.

Indiana National Guard names new director of state operations
INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana’s Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger, is pleased to announce the selection of retired Col. Todd D. Townsend as the director of state operations for the Indiana National Guard. Townsend, a Greenwood, Ind., resident, will succeed retired Col. David Shorter, who will leave his position effective Nov. 14, 2014, after more than 43 years of service to the Indiana National Guard and the state of Indiana.

38th Infantry Division dedicates new monument
The 38th Division Association, which honors the division’s heritage, dedicated a new monument at the 38th Infantry Division headquarters. Ten years ago an idea of a monument at the Cyclone Division Armory began.
