Indiana National Guard names new director of state operations
INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana’s Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger, is pleased to announce the selection of retired Col. Todd D. Townsend as the director of state operations for the Indiana National Guard. Townsend, a Greenwood, Ind., resident, will succeed retired Col. David Shorter, who will leave his position effective Nov. 14, 2014, after more than 43 years of service to the Indiana National Guard and the state of Indiana.

38th Infantry Division dedicates new monument
The 38th Division Association, which honors the division’s heritage, dedicated a new monument at the 38th Infantry Division headquarters. Ten years ago an idea of a monument at the Cyclone Division Armory began.

Director of State Operations, Indiana National Guard, to retire

New 38th Infantry Division commander takes charge
The Army National Guard’s 38th Infantry Division changed commanding generals during a ceremony at the Indiana War Memorial in Indianapolis, Oct 18. Maj. Gen. Lonnie Culver relinquished his command to Maj. Gen. David C. Wood on the front steps north of the monument, as Indiana National Guard’s Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger reviewed the ceremony.

Indiana National Guard names new director of strategic initiatives
INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana’s Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. R. Martin Umbarger, is pleased to announce the selection of Lt. Col. Brent L. Richards as the director of strategic initiatives for the Indiana National Guard. Richards will succeed Col. Ronald Westfall, who served in the position since March 2013 and is now the vice chief of staff for the Indiana National Guard.

Indiana maintenance shop achieves Army excellence
INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana National Guard Soldiers use myriad types of equipment: from radios and guns to Humvees and trucks. All that equipment is kept in tip-top shape by Soldiers who work full time in maintenance shops throughout the state. Soldiers in National Guard units across central Indiana rely on the Combined Support Maintenance Shop 1 in Indianapolis. In September, that shop’s Soldiers took first place in medium-sized shops, 100 to 300 Soldiers, for National Guard maintenance shops....
